Experience alfresco dining

As restrictions continue to ease in England, students in university cities such as Sheffield are suddenly faced with the prospect of eating and drinking out for the first time in months.

If you’re a first-year student, or just unfamiliar with the beautiful and historic city of Sheffield, it might be difficult to know where to start – especially if you’re looking for a great place to dine outdoors. However, fear not, as we’ve compiled a list of the best outside dining spots in Sheffield to meet up in your groups of six to enjoy some food and drinks.

HowSt

The restaurant of HowSt in Sheffield is renowned for its hearty food options – you can get yourself everything from a fry-up to a more millennial-friendly avocado-based breakfast. With vegetarian options a-plenty and bottomless brunches on Sundays, it’s the perfect place to venture out for a dining experience in the sun.

The outdoor patio area at the front accommodates its snack-seeking customers perfectly – and you can even do a little people watching at the same time, too. Sounds good to us.

The Clubhouse

If good old-fashioned pub grub is your thing, then The Clubhouse on London Road is perfect for you. Serving excellent traditional pub foods such as fish and chips and burgers, as well as its ‘Wing Wednesdays’, The Clubhouse was awarded the Traveller’s Choice award in 2020.

It’s well known to locals as the place to go when there’s a major sporting event on, as everything from boxing to hockey matches can be found on its screens. So, if you’re into your sports, be sure to swing by! There’s plenty of outdoor seating for those nice weather days.

The Rhubarb Shed

If you’re willing to venture a little further from Sheffield city centre, the Rhubarb Shed will make it worth your while. Situated in a farmhouse in the south-east of the city, the restaurant is famous for its afternoon teas, desserts and sandwich boards.

With plenty of gluten free dessert options too, such as the Mississippi mud pie and lemon cheesecake, it’s a perfect retreat for times when you feel like going on an out-of-city adventure.

Turtle Bay

Caribbean restaurant Turtle Bay opened its ‘beachfronts’ in April, and its Sheffield branch is now taking bookings for the outdoor area. Known for its colourful menu, including West Indian curries, Buddha bowls and ‘jerk pit’, as well as extensive cocktail options, Turtle Bay is a great place to go for a taste from closer to the equator.

Sheffield’s Turtle Bay is less than a 10-minute walk from our The Moor student accommodation, which gives you even more of an excuse to venture out there. Be sure to pick the warmest day possible to have your outdoor dining experience for the full effect!
