London universities race to be biggest and best

1st September 2016

The UK already offers a world-class university experience that is hugely popular with students from around the world, but now the country is racing to ensure that its unis are even more exciting, particularly in London, where competition to be the best is fierce.

New figures show that in the past six months, British universities have increased their spending on new buildings by 43% compared to the year before. Altogether, £1.5 billion is being spent on improvements to UK unis’ facilities, with another £2 billion to be spent between 2017 and 2020. It is the biggest growth programme that the UK’s universities have seen for over half a century.

London unis are leading the way. University College London is spending an incredible £1.25 billion on building a new campus and refurbishing its facilities. Meanwhile Imperial College is adding seven acres of additional facilities.

The new buildings are some of the most impressive the UK’s education sector has seen since the 1960s: both the Saw Swee Hock Student Centre at the London School of Economics and the Stockwell Street library at the University of Greenwich were nominated for the Riba Sterling Prize.

All of this means that your university experience in London is set to get even bigger and better over the coming years. New facilities make for a better learning environment, just as the right choice of student accommodation can make for a better living environment.

For London students, Charles Morton Court is an exceptional choice of home for making the most of the university lifestyle.
