Much more than a bike race

4th July 2014

If you’re thinking of renting one of our strikingly contemporary studios or two bedroomed apartments in Pennine House, Leeds, then this weekend you would have found yourself in the very best location in the city to enjoy a real spectacle - the start of the Tour de France.  Although Pennine House is located in a quiet cul-de-sac, it is just seconds away from the race start line in the very heart of Leeds city centre.

This year the Tour de France is back in England for the first time since 2007 and the prestigious cycling event will start this Saturday 5 July at 11.10 am from the Headrow, just minutes away from Pennine House. Opposite Leeds City art gallery the 198 cyclists (including the likes of defending champion Chris Froome) will begin the first stage of the 3,500km long race that is the world famous Tour de France.

The race is the third largest sporting event in the world, with 22 teams of cyclists competing in the gruelling three week long competition for the coveted winner’s yellow jersey. The Grand Depart of the world's most prestigious bike race will be a fantastic event and part of an amazing day. So for anyone living close to the action, it will be the chance for years to come to say “I was there”.

Set over 21 stages, competitors will ride 190km from Leeds to Harrogate on Saturday and then from York to Sheffield on Sunday, before wrapping up their journey in England by finishing on The Mall in London.  The race is finally set to end in Paris on Sunday 27 July after the ultimate test of endurance made up of nine flat stages, five hilly stages, six mountain stages, five altitude finishes and one individual time trial.

And if the race has inspired you then, when you move in to your brand new, high-spec student apartment in Pennine House this September, why not get bike fit in the private gym or enjoy watching Tour de France highlights while relaxing in the in-house cinema. Who knows next year you might even win your very own yellow jersey!
