What better way to put your Collegiate kitchen to use than by flipping a few pancakes this Tuesday?

This Shrove Tuesday (17th February), commonly known as Pancake Day, Collegiate residents up and down the country will be taking to their kitchens to try their hands at making (and flipping!) the perfect pancake.

Simple and incredibly cheap to make, pancakes make the perfect meal for vegetarians and meat eaters alike. The flavour combinations are endless from the traditional sprinkling of sugar and a wedge of lemon to savoury delights filled with ham, cheese and more!

So roll your sleeves up, get your apron on and head into your kitchen to impress your friends with our perfect pancake recipe.

Perfect Pancake Recipe

  • 50g plain flour
  • 1 egg
  • 150 ml milk

Whisk the eggs, flour and a dribble of the milk until a paste forms, then slowly whisk in the rest of the milk.

Heat a little oil in a pan, pour in some batter and tip the pan to ensure it spreads thinly and evenly.

Cook for 30 to 60 seconds on each side, until golden with a few pale brown patches. Turn either with a slice or by flipping!

For savoury pancakes, lay slices of ham and grated cheese over the cooked pancake before rolling.

For sweet pancakes, try a simple drizzle of golden syrup, or a more fancy creation with red berries and grated chocolate.

For the ultimate student pancake, go for a big dollop of Nutella and some toasted hazelnuts. Perfection!
