Glasgow tackles technology head-on, with brand new Internet of Things network

8th September 2016

If you’re a fan of cutting edge technology, Glasgow just got a whole lot more interesting as a place to live and study. The city’s universities – Glasgow University, Strathclyde University and Glasgow Caledonian University – have teamed up with four leading tech companies to roll out a large-scale Internet of Things (IoT) network across the city.

The Internet of Things is set to revolutionise a whole range of areas of modern-day living. Wikipedia defines it as, “the network of physical devices, vehicles, buildings and other items—embedded with electronics, software, sensors, actuators, and network connectivity that enable these objects to collect and exchange data.” So in short, it’s the network of pretty much everything that we use in our homes, places of study, workplaces and while on the move.

Glasgow is leading the way with its 12 km2 wireless IoT network, which spreads across the city’s commercial centre, Merchant Way and the West End. The network is one of the most advanced in the world and is an exciting development for all those living, studying and working in the city, who can be part of shaping how the Internet of Things will evolve over the coming years.

Also in Glasgow’s West End is the fabulous Woodside House, meaning you can pursue your education while living in luxurious style in this technological leader of a city. Woodside House boasts exceptional service and a wide range of fantastic features. There’s an on-site management team to help with everything from booking taxis to taking deliveries of shopping, as well as organising regular events throughout the year to help you settle in, make friends and get the most out of your home.

The brand new property’s superior features include an exclusive dinner party room, a glass-walled Sky Lounge, an on-site cinema and a private gym. Meanwhile your individual studio comes with en-suite shower room, double bed, desk and plenty of storage space.

The building also boasts superfast broadband and WiFi throughout, so technology fans can stay connected 24/7. It also has a secure electronic entry system, which allows you to access your room using your mobile phone: perfect for Glasgow’s high tech environment.

Just as the Internet of Things network is set to take technology to the next level in Glasgow, Woodside House has done the same for the city’s student accommodation. Book your room now to be part of the city’s bright future.
