From fashion to education and the arts, the perfect festival is out there waiting for you! For a real alternative event, why not check out the East Neuk Festival in East Neuk o’Fife, Scotland. Spread over nine days, the festival celebrates music, writing and nature, with debates, readings and sand art. Just 40 miles from Edinburgh, the festival venues are spread across several stunning coastal villages – it’s worth attending for the scenery alone! The festival kicks off on 27 June.
For a riotous celebration of burlesque, cabaret and theatre, head to the Fling Festival in Chelmsford on 4 July. Surreal theatre, enlightening talks and immersive arts and crafts are all on the agenda of this day of intensive fun.
If doing the festival circuit isn’t complete for you without a purely music event, then why not try out Unsigned London in Shoreditch Park, which also kicks off on 4 July. Upcoming but unsigned bands and solo acts take to the stage, ranging from rock bands to jazz musicians to future classical stars, Unsigned London has something for everyone.
For theatrical types, Latitude Festival is in Southwold, Suffolk, on 16-19 July. With a strong musical element, Latitude caters to those who enjoy theatre, art, cabaret, comedy, poetry, politics, dance and literature.
Down in Somerset, Farmfest 2015 takes place from 31 July to 2 August. An eclectic mix of music is paired with giant party games, fancy dress, arts activities and superb local refreshments. Starting on 31 July, this year Farmfest celebrates its tenth year, so expect one or two surprises along the way.
If it’s sports that you are into, then check out the Sportbeat Festival in Gloucester on 15 and 16 August. Music lovers, sports fans and serious competitors are all welcome, with the festival including volleyball, rugby and netball tournaments, as well as the UK finals of Scoot Sport GB. Activities like zorbing, a vintage fair and numerous craft stalls all add to the fun.
