The winners of The Edinburgh University Teaching Awards were unveiled at a prestigious ceremony on April 23, attended by over 100 students, university VIPs and staff.  Gateway Apartments were proud to sponsor the awards, as well as being on hand to present the Best Postgraduate Tutor Award.

The Awards, run by the Edinburgh University Student Association (EUSA), aim to showcase the best in teaching, recognising innovation and support of students at Edinburgh University.

The winners in each category were chosen by panel of university students, based not only on the number of nominations received, but on the strength of the supporting statements made within the nominations. See all winners and runners-up here.

First place for the Postgraduate Tutor Award was awarded to Eliana Lambrou of the School of Physics and Astronomy, with the judges citation recognising her selflessness in supporting student endeavour:  “The act I most admire her for was volunteering her own research time to tutor students in one-to-one sessions after class… She is a very modest woman and would not think she is worthy of this praise but her actions prove otherwise.”

Postgraduate tutors are often the unsung heroes in the delivery of many courses across the university, and the Postgraduate Tutor Award recognised tutors that stimulate debate, bring fun to lab sessions and provide helpful feedback to students

Runner-up was Ariadne-Anna Panagopoulou from the School of Law who:

“Has continually gone above and beyond what most tutors would even aspire to. This includes producing detailed tutorial notes from scratch… Even in marking essays, Ariadne has by far surpassed what was expected, providing model answers and detailed specific feedback to all fifty of her students.”

Collegiate MD Eri Cuanalo added: “We are so proud to play a part in helping to recognise the level of commitment offered by staff to their students – a level of commitment we at Collegiate are always aspiring to emulate.”
