As summer nears and restrictions ease across England, university cities are starting to liven up once more. Students are gladly taking the opportunity to eat and drink outside of their four walls for the first time in months. With knowledge of ‘the good old days’, locals and older students will be quick to nab tables at the best eateries, but never fear – we are here to help you get to know some of the best outdoor dining spots that are conveniently close to your student accommodation in Cambridge!

Café Blue Sage

A bit outside the city centre, the Café Blue Sage is a quaint little place offering coffee, tea and a variety of different foods and cakes. Its Mediterranean menu offers a large range of vegan and vegetarian options as well as catering to a wide range of different dietary requirements.  Raved about by many customers, a must have is its Turkish coffee: it’s thick enough to stand even a spoon! If that wasn’t enough, this small café was awarded traveller’s choice in 2020 for its fabulous service and dining experience. They also have cute outdoor seating comprising eclectic furniture so you can enjoy your fresh baklava in the sunshine.

Limoncello Delicatessen & Bistro

Tucked away down Mill Road, this place is a real find. An authentic Italian delicatessen, with a fantastic choice of sweet and savoury delights and passionate, friendly and knowledgeable staff, this place is perfect for a post-lockdown get together. With a not-so-secret garden full of socially distanced tables, Limoncello has managed to bring a slice of Italy to the heart of Cambridge. And with heat lamps and blankets on hand for colder evenings, outdoor dining has never been cosier.

Revolution

Revs is a staple for a student night out (also day out courtesy of its fabulous bottomless brunch). Located just a stone’s throw from the University of Cambridge, this European restaurant and bar is always bustling and it’s not hard to understand why. The retro-industrial décor paired with the accommodating menu make it a hot spot for the under 30s. This rooftop restaurant will be a sure-fire hit at your next get-together – remember to stick to the rule of six!

Six

For dinner with a view, this is the spot. Located on the top floor beneath The Roof Top Garden of The Varsity Hotel this restaurant boasts breath-taking 360° panoramic views across the Cambridge skyline. Open all day, you must visit Six for a delightful afternoon tea or perhaps pop by in the evening for a cocktail or three. Their rooftop terrace is the epitome of classy outdoor dining and the stunning views will not disappoint.
