Endcliffe Park is a firm favourite with Sheffield students, as it’s right on the edge of two vibrant student community areas; Hunters Bar and Endcliffe Student Village. It also connects to Ecclesall Road, another energetic student hub, and is close to the Sheffield Botanical Gardens. In fact, wander down to Glossop Road to get the 120 bus and you’ll be surrounded by stunning and peaceful gardenscapes, flowers, greenery and so much more in no time.
Just a 20 minute walk away you’ll find Bolehills Park – or just ‘the Bolehills’ – and believe us when we say you’ll go for the views and stay for the sunsets. It’s unbeaten for panoramas of Sheffield, over the Loxley and Rivelin Valleys as well as the Peak District. It’s a popular spot for things to do in Sheffield for students particularly in the summertime where you’ll find loads of groups out for picnics, drinks.
Day Trips to the Peak District

Starting from Hillside House, you can make your way to Sheffield Train Station which is just 20 minutes on the Blue tram or roughly a 35-minute walk if you fancy getting your legs warmed up! From there, hop on a train to Hathersage and in around 20 minutes you’ll be in the stunning village that’s bursting with incredible scenery, walking routes, cute cafes and an amazing heated outdoor pool.
If you prefer to stay closer to home, the popular Porter Valley Trail begins at Endcliffe Park and follows a remarkable picturesque route through woodland and green spaces towards the Peak District which is ideal for walking or cycling. Since our student accommodation in Sheffield, Hillside House, has secure bike storage, it’s easy to keep a bike to hand to get out and around the city.
Named by the Guardian as one of top ten bus journeys in the UK, the Stagecoach 218 bus from Sheffield Interchange to Bakewell should absolutely be on your student activity bucket list. You’ll be in the village of Bakewell in around an hour while also travelling through some of Derbyshire’s most scenic countryside. When you arrive, you can explore gorgeous riverside walks, browse independent shops or try the famous Bakewell Pudding. The route also stops near Chatsworth House and Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet, giving you plenty of options if you want to break up the journey.
Currently the adult single fare is £3 so you can reach Bakewell for just £6 return, or if you want to make several journeys (for example, Sheffield → Chatsworth → Bakewell → Sheffield), a Stagecoach Wayfarer day ticket is £9 for unlimited bus travel across Derbyshire and on direct buses to/from Sheffield.
Budget-Friendly Days Out
It’s delightfully easy to make the most of everything the city offers without stretching your budget.

Just a 20-minute walk from our student accommodation in Sheffield and you’ll find affordable street food, fresh produce including a butchers, fishmongers and a bakery. Keep an eye on any of your favourite stalls as many offer student discounts through the year, don’t be afraid to get chatting and ask the question!
Afterwards, wander over towards Division Street where you’ll also come across a host of great independent shops and charity shops that are always good for a browse for clothes, books, vinyls, and homewares. Finish with a coffee in one of the nearby independent cafés before heading back on foot. It’s an easy way to spend a few hours without stretching your student budget.
A great day out, particularly in the summer, is to head to Endcliffe Park for a picnic with friends where you can agree on a budget and everyone brings a bite to eat or drinks to share. If you’re feeling energetic, why not make a pack up or pick up a meal deal and tackle the Porter Valley Trail onto Forge Dam?
