Setting the Standard in Health & Safety

Why Health & Safety Matters in PBSA

In purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA), health and safety are fundamental to resident wellbeing and operational excellence. With thousands of students calling our communities home, the need for robust, proactive, and transparent safety management has never been greater. Our residents trust us to provide not only high-quality accommodation, but also safe, healthy, and supportive environments in which they can thrive.

Our Achievements

ISO 45001 Certification

In 2024, Collegiate UK achieved ISO 45001 certification — the internationally recognised benchmark for Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) Management Systems.

  • What it means: ISO 45001 provides a structured framework for identifying hazards, managing risks, embedding safe operations, and continuously improving safety practices.
  • Why it’s important: It ensures that health and safety isn’t left to chance, but is systematically integrated into every aspect of how we manage our sites.
  • How we achieved it: Led by our Health & Safety Manager, Nicci Kingdon, the Estates & Facilities Team implemented new policies, training programmes, and risk controls, with full engagement from General Managers and site teams across the portfolio.

🏆 RoSPA Gold Award

Building on ISO 45001, Collegiate also received the RoSPA Gold Award from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents — the highest level of recognition for occupational health and safety management.

  • What it means: RoSPA Gold celebrates strong, proactive safety management, a well-embedded safety culture, and exceptional risk control with very low incidents of harm.
  • Why it’s important: It validates that our commitment to safety is not only effective, but externally recognised as best practice within the UK.

Impact: What This Means for Collegiate UK Communities

Together, these achievements demonstrate that Collegiate UK is setting a new standard for health and safety in PBSA. They show that we:

  • Put wellbeing first: Health, safety, and resident wellbeing are inseparable, and we view them as core to the student experience.
  • Operate responsibly: Our policies and procedures go beyond compliance, ensuring every decision considers the safety of residents, staff, and visitors.
  • Build trust: Independent, internationally recognised certifications provide reassurance to residents, parents, partners, and investors.
  • Drive continual improvement: Both ISO 45001 and RoSPA are not one-off milestones but commitments to ongoing monitoring, learning, and raising standards year after year.
