Welcome to Hatfield
Hatfield is a bustling town in Hertfordshire that is packed with appeal for students looking for an exceptional university experience. Crammed with splendid gastropubs, the modern Galleria shopping centre and cultural offerings at the Weston Auditorium and The Forum Hertfordshire, Hatfield has something to offer everyone. There's also plenty of beautiful countryside for those who enjoy outdoor pursuits and fresh air, as well as the convenience of urban life. And if that's not enough, the bright lights of London are a mere 20 miles away.
20 miles north of London lies the town of Hatfield, home to the University of Hertfordshire. Hatfield is a friendly place with plenty to offer. If you're coming to study in Hatfield, you will find plenty of outlets at which to shop, drink and dine in this compact and cultured town.
The majestic grace of the Hatfield House stately home offers a glimpse of English life in days gone by. Meanwhile, The Forum Hertfordshire music venue (set within the university), offers entertainment that's bang up to date. The venue is known for being the location of Ed Sheeran's 2011 Lego House music video, with many of the university's students making up the audience.
Hatfield has a lively theatrical scene and excellent retail offering. National and international brands are the focus of the Galleria shopping centre, while The Stable Yard at Hatfield House provides an eclectic mix of independent stores. The Stable Yard is also home to live music, beer festivals, busking and more throughout the year.
Direct trains to London King's Cross railway station, Finsbury Park and Moorgate mean that students also have the whole of the capital at their disposal, making Hatfield the ideal place to enjoy a rich and varied university lifestyle.
Hatfield is a welcoming place for those coming from other parts of the UK or from overseas to study and the University of Hertfordshire is central to life in this compact city. Meanwhile, being able to reach London in just 20 minutes by train means that students can enjoy an incredible range of world-class entertainment options in their spare time.
The University of Hertfordshire is benefitting from a £200 million investment in its facilities in recent years, which has introduced cutting edge technology and industry standard facilities. The university is home to the eighth most impressive law school building in the world, along with a £50 million, state of the art Life and Medical Sciences facility. Over 96% of the university's graduates are employed or engaged in further study within six months of graduating.
Hatfield is a good sized city for students looking to navigate on foot or by bicycle. The town centre offers an abundance of amenities in a compact area, from inexpensive cafés and restaurants to boutique stores and plentiful pubs and bars.
The surrounding Hertfordshire countryside means that greenery is never too far away, with traditionally British outdoor pursuits easily accessible.
Hatfield enjoys excellent rail connections, being just 20 minutes from central London. It is also well placed to access four UK airports, offering students a wealth of international connections.
Whether you prefer unique vintage pieces or contemporary brands, Hatfield has it all. The Galleria shopping mall serves those looking for the latest national and international designs, while the city centre is also home to plenty of quirky, boutique stores. Those on the search for gorgeous knickknacks will delight in the range of products on offer at The Stable Yard shops at Hatfield House.
Hatfield has plenty to offer at night, from superb music at The Forum Hertfordshire to drinks, dinner and pool at Club de Havilland, another university venue. The town is also home to an excellent range of bars and pubs, meeting the needs of everyone from real ale fans to those who prefer to sip cocktails after the sun sets. There's also a theatre for evenings with a little more culture thrown into the mix and a nine-screen cinema for catching up with the latest blockbusters.
