Upcoming 2017 Movies

Baywatch (May 2017)

Director: Seth Gordon

Top Cast: Dwayne Johnson, Zac Efron, Alexandra Daddario, Priyanka Chopra

Quick Synopsis: This one seems to have been in the pipeline for years and will finally hit UK cinemas in May 2017. Anyone old enough to remember the series will need no introduction and the cast of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Zac Efron give this adaptation a contemporary edge, including swearing, sexual innuendos and a lot of beach running.

Wonder Woman (June 2017)

Director: Patty Jenkins

Top Cast: Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Robin Wright & David Thewlis

Quick Synopsis: This one promises to be one of the big hits this summer, chronicling Wonder Woman’s journey from Amazon Princess into one of the most iconic superheroes of all time. Stylishly created with an A-List cast, we can’t wait for this one here at Collegiate and urge you to make this one of your priorities when it hits cinemas this June. It will also set up the next big superhero film, Justice League, so it is definitely not one to miss.

Spiderman: Homecoming (July 2017)

Directors: Jon Watts

Top Cast: Tom Holland, Michael Keaton, Zendaya, Robert Downey Jr.

Quick Synopsis: Another big hit for Marvel, Spiderman: Homecoming follows the events following Captain America: Civil War. Peter Parker is back at school and is attempting to balance his career and his heroic web-slinging deeds. A film to watch this summer, it will definitely add another dimension to the hugely successful franchise.

Detroit (August 2017)

Director: Kathryn Bigelow

Top Cast: John Boyega, Anthony Mackie, Algee Smith, Jacob Latimore

Quick Synopsis: Brought to you by the Oscar - winning director of Hurt Locker and Zero Dark Thirty, Detroit is based on the The Algiers Motel Incident during Detroit's 1967 12th Street Riot. One of the biggest uprisings in American history, this promises to be a must watch. It will be released on the 4th August to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the event.

Darkest Hour (November 2017)

Director: Joe Wright

Writer: Anthony McCarten

Top Cast: Gary Oldman, Lily James & Ben Mendelsohn

Quick Synopsis: This movie may be some way off, with it not being released until November but we had to include it in our guide to the best upcoming films in 2017.
Darkest Hour is another biopic of Winston Churchill but looks to give an in-depth portrayal of his early days as Prime Minister and one of the most crucial decisions ever made by a world leader. With none other than cinema royalty Gary Oldman playing Churchill, supported by a superb cast and directed by the man who brought you Atonement and Pride & Prejudice, Darkest Hour will surely be worth the wait.
